Introduction The Partnership members have been in existence for many years in Hindley and thereby know the needs of our community. Through the range of activities we provide, we know there is a need for this project. To substantiate the need a survey was carried out in 2001 amongst local residents; almost a 1000 replied in favour of the proposal. It is anticipated that the proposed building could provide a home for many and varied activities: Mother & Toddler Groups, After School Clubs, Youth Clubs, activities for the elderly and Luncheon Club, various sporting activities including indoor bowling, table tennis and badminton, as well as providing a home for Hindley A.R.L.F.C. and St. Peter’s Cricket Club. We are also exploring the possibility for a Breakfast and Homework Club with St. Benedict’s and St. Peter’s Schools. It could also provide a safe meeting place for committees and organisations. The vastly improved facilities would also help to strengthen our links with Wigan College International Centre’s overseas programme with greater involvement of its Indian students. St. Peter’s Church has a good track record in providing facilities for the community through its Youth Organisations, men’s and women’s groups and its varied social activities. We have considerable experience in running and maintaining a large public building and in the year 2003 had a turnover of nearly £143,000. We believe that our experience and expertise will help in the building, funding and ongoing running and maintenance of the new building. St. Peter’s Church have provided the land for the new building, but we would need funding from outside agencies. The Partnership will provide over 100 hours per week of work with more than 400 children. The heart of the proposal is a Partnership that would exist between many local groups and organisations. This proposal is formulated by local people, for local people, with the support of this community in which we live and work. This is a Partnership which will enhance and help to realise the potential of our community. Without the funding however, the project would not be a viable proposition.
